unschooled

Set against the challenges facing Philadelphia’s public school system, this documentary follows families searching for a better path for their children’s education. In North Philadelphia, where schools are struggling with underfunding, violence, and systemic neglect, some parents turn to an unlikely alternative: a newly opened learning resource center in Germantown run by a determined 75 year old grandfather offering a radically different approach to education. The film explores the hopes, frustrations, and resilience of families seeking opportunity in a system that often feels stacked against them. The film screened at DOC NYC 2019, SXSW EDU 2020, and the Lower East Side Film Festival 2020.

Kyle served as Assistant Editor on the documentary.
